The Shit Kids Say

Image
I am a huge fan of Inferno's social media campaign for the NSPCC, 'The Shit Kid's Say'... I have always thought that the way to engage your audience is to be as realistic as possible - with a situation that the public can understand and relate to. Everyone loves the mental things kids say; how they don't make sense and say things wrong. I love how this video starts off drawing you in with humour, and gradually introduces the issues, showing how easy it is to dismiss what a kid is saying or doing just because 'kids say the darnedest things'. I think this will definitely make people more aware of the behaviours of a child and help them clock on to when they think something looks not quite right. I also like that this is only going to be a social media spot and have no other forms of advertising, such as TV. It sounds like a meme, and I'm sure it will start behaving like one when it goes viral, drawing in a different type of audience. Inferno have ...

Not sure what this proves or if it would make someone employ you but... look! I got 'high' marks on both!  Employ me.

My new business - disguise wrapping

Image
Guess what it is? That's right! Ray-Ban sunglasses!  It's boring when you've asked what you want for your birthday or Christmas, so you know what to expect. Where is the element of surprise?! It's here, in the wrapping. My new, unpaid, one employee business, (or actually it's just a thing I sometimes do), is to wrap presents in weird and wonderful ways so it creates joy, laughter, and weird looks from strangers.

The Good effect

A couple of weeks ago I worked at The Good Agency . I spent one week with Business Development and one in Creative. The whole experience was interesting, but I'm definitely not meant for business. I loved working with the creatives; writing radio ads, learning InDesign and being involved in creative meetings, speaking up and having my opinion counted. The whole experience rubbed off on me more than I thought, but not in terms of advertising. Instead, it made me aware of how many charities there are, how many of them do such amazing, selfless work and how much suffering there really is. I ran Race for Life last year and Sport Relief the year before that, but this has inspired me to keep doing more, for different charities. Anyway, I also discovered this website www.osocio.org  which really is " The best of non-profit advertising and marketing for social causes" - very cool and interesting.

Why has Facebook bought Instagram?

Image
$1 billion?! Why such a huge price tag on such a non-threatening, no revenue app? Here's an interesting piece on the subject by Molly Wood:   http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-205_162-57411761/facebook-buys-instagram-...but-for-what/ "Facebook bought the thing that is hardest to fake. It bought sincerity." - Paul Ford

Saatchi&Saatchi Scholarship 2012 brief 4...

Image
Skype Interview. I'm not going to reveal anything I was asked in the interview, just incase it's not allowed, but I thought I'd at least show you what I did. The brief was to read another candidates' CV, and then do a 3 minute presentation to the interviewers, explaining why that person is perfect for the job. Not only that, but we had to present it in an imaginative, fun way. I decided to go for an Apprentice Boardroom theme, with me pretending to be my candidate, presenting my case on why "I" should be hired, from across the table. So I started with answering the call with me not in shot, and playing the Apprentice theme tune very loudly. I came on with a wheely suitcase, sat down, and launched straight into my presentation about "me". After the 3 minutes, they had questions for 'Laura', so I took my hair down in a dramatic and cheesy character change fashion, and started answering their questions for me. It was nerve...

Great ad... but for Visa?

Image
Saw this today on my way home from work... Made me smile. However, if a taxi is driving past you at 35 mph on a crowded street, and the first and only thing you manage to see is the clever running illusion, what would you think it was advertising? In London... In 2012... Only when I looked closer at the photo afterwards, did I see it was for Visa Connections. I assumed it was for the Olympics. Taxi's are a great medium for advertising though and it worked humour-wise, but not sure it associates well with the brand.

For a change...

Saatchi&Saatchi Scholarship 2012 (Granny Ludlow cont...)

Image
What started out to be a last minute entry into something I didn't think I'd get, has now turned into me being in the final 49 people out of 3,000 after 3 different briefs. Mental. If you scroll down to my 'Granny Ludlow' post, it will explain all about how I started the Saatchi summer scholarship. Last thing I wrote was that I was given the 3rd brief, which was to recreate an ad which we thought was really good, and to present a case on a bad advert and why we thought it was bad, in 90 seconds. My bad ad I talked about Albion's 'Wonga' ads with the pensioner puppets, and for the good ad I recreated AMV BBDO's 'Heinz' blowing-on-the-soup-in-a-tune ad. Here is my full entry: Today I found out I got into the final 49. There are two more briefs. Not sure what they involve but I'm ready. ps. how ANNOYING is my voice?!!!????
